I believe that it is important to maintain our sense of awe in order to avoid becoming cynical. I strive to do that through my photography by exploring the beauty in this world, especially in the ordinary. I photograph a wide variety of subjects, but nature is by far what I love shooting most. Being connected with the natural world is vital to our well-being, and nature photography helps me to maintain that connection and to live in the present moment.
Most of my work is digital, although I do occasionally shoot film because of the nostalgia and tactility. Although I work in both color and black and white, I have been gravitating more toward black and white as my style continues to evolve. Sometimes color can be a distraction, and black and white can really force the observer to focus on the shapes, textures, and soul of the image.
I am a landscape and nature photographer based in Maynard, Massachusetts. Having spent most of my life in the Carolinas, the move to New England in 2015 has been a huge adjustment, but it has also been hugely rewarding in terms of reinvigorating my photography and in the relationships we have developed.
